OverviewCase Hard Chisel
Project Intent - Using low carbon steel to create a woodworker's tool by various steel treatment and case hardening process.
Process - Decide which tool relies only on a portion of the tool being hardened as large pieces of low carbon steel are unlikely to harden uniformly. After selecting a chisel, choosing what bar stock to turn and what overall cutting edge to leave from original barstock. Both mill and lathe used to rough shape and eventually jewelers emery to sharpen hardened tip. Lathe set up to turn high density wood handle after stationary drilling. Final process will be stainless Tig weld cap onto chamfered end after handle is installed.
